About

About The Ball

A myriad of rooms, dance floors, dens, hidden bars, unpredictable nano-venues, eccentric humour and epic raves with a soundtrack of New York disco, primal chants, cosmic guitar licks and terrifying techno.

The Masked Ball, an event that heralds the start and the end of the great British festival season, is a bi annual event staged in West Cornwall, running since 2009. The Spring Ball is carved into the clifftops near Porthleven, overlooking stunning Mount’s Bay for one long weekend in May. And departs at Halloween to its nefarious nocturnal haunt of Los Flambardos Theme Park in Helston.

No-one could ever accuse The Masked Ball of being conventional. Capricious perhaps, and always innovative and eager to push the boundaries. It’s this constant quest to see just how far the envelope can be pushed that has earned The Masked Ball a loyal following of hedonistic thrillseekers, all keen to see what the organisers have conjured up next, in a multi-layered wonderland of secret venues and twisted surprises, set to a scorching soundtrack.

History

History

It all started in a friends garden in 2007..

Back in 2007 Porthleven couple Sam and Stuart Smith took over The Beacon Cragg Guesthouse in Porthleven. Following a lengthy visit to The Ship Inn Kelvin convinced Stu to carve out a section of his garden to erect a tent for a ‘Masked Ball’….The event that started with 200 ballers has now grown organically and been capped to 5000 attendees in the interest of keeping the personal and intimate feel to the event.

The Masked Balls now regularly benefit many charities In 2010 we added a Halloween edition of The Masked Ball which now takes place a few miles down the road at ‘Los Flambardos’ a nocturnal theme park. The event is owned and operated by Arc Live the events company started by Kelvin and Alec that we run from our hometown of Porthleven.
