With many festivals tending to lock you up and rattle your last pennies out of you…. 🙂

We at The Ball like to think we’ve always been a little different. So if you’re coming down for the weekend we think you should be able to pitch your tent or check in to one of our glamping upgrades and enjoy the festival and our village as much as we do…So – here’s 10 great things to do in and around Porthleven whilst at The Ball…

1) Have a pint or two in one of the many legendary Porthleven pubs.

There are a number of great boozers in Porthleven all within walking distance of the site. No visit to The Ball would be complete without a visit to the closest pub and our team’s local ‘The Ship’. A riotous legendary place captained by our mate (and ball builder) ‘Gay Tom’. It’s a real gem of a pub, not just for Porthleven but for the whole of Cornwall. Making the top 10 in The Coolest places to be seen in Cornwall too…. so pull up a bar stool, order a pint of ‘Porthleven’ and watch the carnage unfold. Every. Single. Night

If you fancy a more relaxing vibe and a top flight pint of Guinness try The Atlantic Inn which has stunning views over the ocean, an unbeatable Sundowner spot…And lest we forget The Blue Anchor in Helston home of the infamous pint of Spingo.

2) Hang out at the beach

There is a wealth of stunning beaches within a few miles of The Ball –  Porthleven beach is great for relaxing and maybe a BBQ…why not give our mate Budgie the fisherman a ring at Fish on Wheels and ee’ will sort ee ‘reet ooot’ with some freshly caught maaaa’ckerel 07863 639285. Praa Sands for bit of surfing or swimming, and off the beaten track, try Rinsey which is overlooked by an old tin mine….(Please take heed of The Atlantic ocean and its dangers…Porthleven is particularly dangerous for swimming/surfing so head to Praa Sands for lifeguard cover)

3) Eat some top nosh at an award winning restaurant.

Looking to fill up pre ball in style…There are so many great restaurants dotted around the harbour in Porthleven.  Steins, Amelies, Kota all selling fresh seafood and global menus. A few of them headed up by celebrity chefs…We can recommend an amazing burger at Kota Kai….and let’s not forget the ‘Paaasty’.  Our mate Ferg from Ann’s Pasties has just opened up a shop in the village and his are ‘right on!’

4) Try surfing.

Of course with great beaches sometimes comes great surf. Our friend Dan ‘Mole’ Joel has his own surf school at Poldhu beach, not far from The Ball. Or if you have your own kit Praa sands is just a few miles down the coast and also has great waves for surfing. Nothing like a surf to cure that hangover and get you stoked for the evening ahead.

5)  Go to the theatre…

Why not take your Ball date here for added wow factor…Yep you didn’t hear us wrong –  30 min drive down the coast is a unique theatre perched on the cliffs high above the Atlantic ocean. The legendary Minack Open Air Theatre is in one of the most beautiful settings anywhere in the world.  There doesn’t even need to be a show on to make this a worthwhile trip…. Mind-blowing stuff.

6)  Try SUP’n (Stand Up Paddle Boarding)

If you take a wander down to the harbour our friends at Vertical Blue run a paddleboard school. Offering lessons within the harbour (where it’s always calm) or you can hire the boards and have a crack yourselves. It looks pretty hard but is actually very relaxing.

Many Ballers complain that they can’t remember much after the ball 🙂 so why not take home a keep sake that may jog those memories in the future..and it will make you feel better 😉 Porthleven has wealth of fine local Cornish art and crafts. There are workshops and galleries where work is still produced on the premises and you may even see crafts being created. Check Out Waves Gallery, Custom House Gallery, The Salt Cellar workshops and Four Crows for a start…
